Tulum

Located 80 miles south of Cancun, and 40 south of Playa; Tulum is the Mayan Riviera southen tip. Tulum is home to one of the most popular mayan ruins sites.

In a nutshell
Beautiful Mayan ruins and relaxing beaches.

How to get there?
A 2$ bus that departs every two hours will take you from Playa del Carmen’s central bus station to the Tulum pueblo (village). From there you can negotiate a quick taxi ride to the Tulum beachfront.

What to do?
Located at the beachfront, the mayan ruins of Tulum are absolutely a must. Note that you can throughly explore the ruins in no more than a hour and a half, so we recommend that you plan other activities for that smae day. In case you arrive to Tulum as a part of an organized tour, make sure that a visit to the Mayan ruins at Coba is planned for the same day.
Tulum has also a beautiful beach, so if you have the time, we recommend that you allow a few days to relax at one of the beachfront rustic cabanas.

Where to sleep?
If you are staying at Tulum, make sure that you opt for a rustic cabana at the beachfront. We met fellow travelers that stayed at the Tulum village and were disappointed from the village’s lack of charm.
If you are sleeping at a cabana, make sure that you bring a good mosquito repellent and even a mosquito net. Note that the cabanas are not connected to electric power,so bring your own flashlight.
